2010: Mark Strand (Poet)

Pulitzer Prize Winner and Former US Poet Laureate, Mark Strand

Mark Strand is the 2009 Recipient of the Gold Medal in Poetry from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Strand, born in Canada, is an American poet, essayist and translator.

He has been the recipient of multiple awards, including the Fulbright Fellowship, MacArthur Fellowship, Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress, and the Pulitzer Prize (for Blizzard of One).

Strand has had an extensive academic career, teaching at universities such as University of Iowa, University of Brazil, Princeton University Brandeis University, University of Utah and John Hopkins University.  As of 2005, he serves as a professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University.

In 2012, Strand published Almost Invisiblea new body of prose poems.
