The Institute of Creative Writing and Literary Translation is pleased to welcome essayist and poet Maria Adelaide Basile, Ph.D. to read as a part of its Summer Institute Reading Series. Basile has taught Italian language and literature at Rutgers University, the College of Charleston and John Cabot University in Rome. Basile has read papers at several conferences, and published several essays on Dante, Nievo, Manzoni, and the filmmaker Gillo Pontecorvo.
Basile worked as a theater critic for several newspapers, and has translated and introduced the poems of the French poet Alain Bosquet, the American poets Anne Carson and Philiph Schultz (the last with the Monteverde Legge group). Her publications include several essays on the Italian writer Piero Sanavio and a collection of poems, Viaggi (Travels), Campanotto, November 2014. (From the John Cabot University Website).
